My Favorite Books for a Book-Themed Mother’s Day Gift
Some of the books making my list were gifts that were given to me and that I truly enjoyed. Some came highly recommended from mom-friends. And I hate to admit it, but I bought some of these books because their covers were pretty, but I ended up being super impressed by their contents and share them all the time.

For a Mom in Need of a Laugh:
The Fireside Grown-up Guide to the Mom
I received this little pocket guide as a gift, and it was (and still is) a cute, quick read. It currently takes up residence with a few other tongue-in-cheek books on display in my guest bedroom.
Toddlers are A**holes {It’s Not Your Fault} by Bunmi Laditan
Another gift, this was given to me by my sister. She totally gets my humor. I imagine most of my mom friends would appreciate this book too. Because, well, it’s the truth!
For the Stressed Mom:
Breathe, Mama, Breathe by Shonda Moralis
I have to admit – I originally picked up this book based solely on the fact that I liked the artwork on the cover. I thought it was pretty, and the title immediately spoke to me.
Girl, was I glad I did!
I love this book so much I often give it to new moms, moms of toddlers, moms on the first day of school, and heck – even moms of teenagers. This book is good for any mom for any occasion!
My favorite way to give this gift? As part of my larger Relaxation Gift Basket for Moms.
Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist
This book came highly recommended from a friend, and I in turn recommend it all the time. I re-read this book often myself, since the message is always relevant for me. Sometimes I just need to slow my roll for a second and soak in the madness (aka motherhood).
For the Bad-ass Working Mom:
Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
This was another recommendation from a friend of mine. This is a great book for any mother climbing the corporate ladder or setting off on her own to follow her dreams.
Breathe Empower Achieve by Shonda Moralis
Full disclosure here – “Breathe Empower Achieve” was given to me by the publisher because they knew how much I loved Shonda’s other book, “Breathe, Mama, Breathe.”
I was was a little skeptical that this book would be more of the same. But I was pleasantly surprised that it approached mindfulness from a different perspective, specifically that of a working mom.
Bad Girls Throughout History by Ann Shen
This book was another gift from my sister, who knows me better than I know myself. Not only is this book beautiful – it’s currently on display at my home – but it has interesting historical tidbits about strong women over the centuries.
This would be a great gift for any bad-ass woman in your life!

FIRST STEP: Download my free Mother’s Day bookmark
SECOND STEP: Print it to white card stock using a home printer.

If you’ve got 2 extra minutes, add a cute tassel or ribbon
I added a hole punch to my bookmark and threaded through a tassel made from embroidery floss. This took all of 2 extra minutes if you use a quality tutorial like this one from Lia Griffith. Her step-by-step photographs were key!

My Favorite “Book Lover” Gift Add-ons
It’s totally understandable if a book alone is not enough of a gift to show the mom in your life just how much you care. If that’s the case for you, then I recommend going full-throttle on a book-themed gift.
Here are some of my favorite book-related gift add-on’s!

(1) The Book Lover’s Journal | (2) “Return These Books” Tote Bag | (3) Personal Library Kit | (4) “Old Books” Book Lovers’ Soy Candle | (5) Library Stamp | (6) Book Rest | (7) Concrete Bookend and Vase
If you end up trying any of them, I’d love to hear what you think!
