Assemble a Cheerful & Personalized Little Box of Sunshine

Assemble a Cheerful & Personalized Little Box of Sunshine

This Little Box of Sunshine is the perfect way to brighten someone’s day, even when you don’t quite know what to say or do.

Life is so dang hard. That’s obvious, right?

It’s inevitable that friends and family members experience tough times. Divorces, deaths, miscarriages, job losses (Sorry if it just got heavy here). But they happen every day, and I never seem to know what to do to help others feel better in those instances.

After all, nothing I say or do can actually make someone feel better when they hit one of life’s rough patches. But what I can do is help them feel loved.

Before I start stumbling over words or smothering someone with attention, I try to take a step back. What do I like when things get rough? Many times, I just want to know someone is thinking of me or remembering me in their prayers.

I just try to remember: You don’t need to find the right words.

For me, this box says it all: I love you, I’m here for you, I’m thinking about you.

Sometimes that’s all you can do. Sometimes that is enough.

Inspiration for a Custom Pick-me-up Gift

This Little Box of Sunshine is the perfect way to let someone know they are in your thoughts. And I’m here to give you some inspiration for what to include.

If you are a frequent reader of my blog, then you know I put together a complete Cricut tutorial for a similar gift – my Little BAG of Sunshine. Instead of recreating the wheel, I want to give you some more inspiration for this custom pick-me-up gift.

Little Box of Sunshine: A Hug from Afar

A Little Box of Sunshine is way easier to send in the mail than my original bags.

When I need to send a hug from afar, I

  1. Scour local shops for yellow items my recipient would enjoy;
  2. Write a quick note explaining the yellow theme (or in this case, make a quick card with my Cricut);
  3. Pack the yellow items in a box with yellow packing materials; and
  4. Ship it off!

Little Box of Sunshine Contents

For this particular box, I included:

little box of sunshine with yellow mittens, Ghirardelli chocolates, yellow lotion, Good Morning Beautiful towels, and yellow "love" box

|| Kate Spade “Taxi!” Mittens || The recipient of this box loves Kate Spade. So when I found these yellow mittens, I just knew she’d adore them. They obviously fit with the yellow theme, but they seem to have been made just for her. When I started putting this box together, mittens were not the first thing I thought to include. This just goes to show, if you keep your eyes open, your Little Box of Sunshine is completely customizable.

|| Crabtree & Evelyn Citron & Coriander Hand Cream || Hand creams are always a good idea, especially if you can find one that is both in a yellow package and has a springy, cheerful scent. I love this particular Crabtree & Evelyn hand cream because it is super hydrating without being too greasy.

|| Ghirardelli Mini Milk Chocolate & Caramel || Who doesn’t love chocolate? But if your recipient isn’t a fan, you can easily substitute other yellow treats. Lemon Heads, Lays Classic Potato Chips, or Golden Oreos are also good ideas.

|| “Good Morning Beautiful” Essential Oil Towelettes (7 day bag) in Citrus & Lemon Peel by Happy Spritz || I received these towelettes as a Christmas gift and instantly fell in love! Now I don’t have to look too hard to find an excuse to buy them for all of my friends and family. These handy little packs are perfect for a mid-day pick-me-up. The scent is lovely, and you can throw one in your bag for a quick refresh any time of day.

|| A Prayer Box || While I was scouring stores for all things yellow, I stumbled upon this Prayer Box. It seemed like serendipity. This pale yellow box had a perfect message inside:

“When your head starts to worry, and your mind just can’t rest, put your prayers down on paper & let God do the rest.”

I love the concept of a prayer box so much! I may just have to tinker around in Design Space and make customized boxes using my Cricut. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to share a tutorial once I do!
