Custom DIY Valentine’s Day Shirt Gift {Tutorial}

Dressing up our kids in the clothes of our choice is the reason we had kids, right? Make sure everyone knows who your kid loves most this Valentine’s Day by making this Drake-inspired DIY Valentine’s Day shirt for them to wear.

I make no apologies: I would happily be my kids’ #1 Valentine every year if I could, and I’m not above staking my claim to them by writing it on their shirts in iron-on vinyl.

It doesn’t matter that my youngest kid is too young to read. I just know she’d agree with the words if she could. So, while I can, I’m calling dibs this year (and every year in the foreseeable future). Heck, I’ll continue to make this shirt as long as my kid agrees to wear it!

HOW THIS DIY VALENTINE’S DAY SHIRT CAME TO BE

While browsing Etsy months ago, I fell in love (appropriate for a Valentine’s Day post, no?) with this svg file from Shoplemonsandlollis. (as of 1/2020, this Etsy shop has closed). However, if I were making this project today, I’d use this svg file from theRusticFoxxShop or this one from StarrDesignShop.

With Valentine’s Day looming and no other cute t-shirt ideas coming to mind, I was so happy to have this file tucked away in my svg arsenal.

To me, it doesn’t scream “Valentine’s Day!” and at the rate my kids grow (or I should say – at the rate they don’t grow), I just know they will still be able to wear these shirts in say, October. But even with the red foil lettering I added, this shirt will be in style no matter the time of year.

If you want lay claim to your kid(s) this Valentine’s Day or if you want to make an adult size for yourself for Galentine’s Day, here is a free Cricut tutorial outlining how to do it!
