I use sweet cartoon-like Halloween svgs – nothing too ghoulish – and bright, seasonal colors – like orange, black and purple – to make this gift. I especially love giving this trick-or-treat candy bowl as gifts for families with small children. There’s something about the kids pointing out a mini witch or Frankenstein junior and declaring “This is me!” It just makes me smile.

I’ve even noticed my 4-year-old loves to hand out candy almost as much as trick-or-treating himself simply because he’s so proud of “his” candy bowl. Notice I said almost!

Okay, now let’s get down to business…

STEP 1: GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES FOR YOUR PERSONALIZED TRICK-OR-TREAT CANDY BOWL

GRAB THE EXACT SUPPLIES I USED AT AMAZON.COM:

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD THE FONT & UPLOAD IT TO YOUR CRICUT DESIGN SPACE

I used a font called Euphorigenic for the words “Happy” and “The Menkes” and a font called Petite France for the word “Halloween.” Neither font comes standard in Cricut Design Space, but you can get them for free from dafont.com and upload them to Design Space.

*Always double-check the licensing for the fonts you download. I am using this font for personal use and will not be selling these candy bowls for profit. However, there are plenty of completely free fonts on dafont.com.

Download directions:

  • Go to Dafont.com and search for the names of each font or click on the links above. Next, click on the gray “download” button to the right of the font.
  • Once the zip file has downloaded to your computer, open the file and double-click on the TrueType font file to open it.
  • Then hit the “install” button at the top of the document.
  • Once the install is complete, open Cricut Design Space and select your new font from the font drop-down menu. (If you are already working in Design Space, you’ll want to refresh it or log out and back in so you can see the new font selection).

STEP 3: DOWNLOAD THE SVGS & UPLOAD THEM TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE

For this particular candy bowl, I used a large witch and a large Frankenstein to represent me and my husband, respectively ;). Then I added a small Frankenstein for my son and a small witch for my daughter.

I love the playfulness of these svgs, but I also adore these equally cute svgs as well:

To add these svgs, you’ll need to:

  • Go to Etsy, purchase and download the svgs of your choice to your computer.
  • Open Cricut Design Space and in a New Project, click on the “Upload” button on the left sidebar.
  • Click on the “Upload Image” button and then the “Browse” button to navigate to where you’ve saved your image.
  • Double click on the file
  • Add an image name and tags and click “Save.”
  • Now your image will be saved to Recently Uploaded Images under the Upload tab.
  • Click on your image and hit the “Insert Images” button, which will take you back to your canvas for further manipulation.

STEP 4: ADJUST THE SIZING OF THE SVGS AND ADD YOUR TEXT

Once you have both the svg graphics and text uploaded to Design Space, play around with the sizing until you are satisfied with the overall look.

Click on the green “MAKE IT” button in the upper right of Design Space and cut each color of vinyl individually.

STEP 5: CUT, WEED & TRANSFER YOUR VINYL

See my process below: 1) weed 2) barnish 3) remove the paper backing 4) place 5) barnish again and 6) remove the plastic liner.
